Drawing Dogs

New Designers was fantastic, it was great to see so many incredibly talented people! There's been some interest in my work as a result, so it's been worth the stress of it all.

In the meantime (while looking for work) I've been talking with my wonderful mother about a story idea she's had - which I love - but involves drawing dogs...which are something I'm not used to drawing, so I've been experimenting with my style, seeing how it looks. Here's some initial sketches for you!

A Cockapoo. Essentially a mass of black curls...couldn't have picked a harder breed to start with!
A German Shepherd. One of my favourite breeds! This one is only a youngster!

Slightly more cartoony style to get across expressions better.

I'll try and keep updating more often, and will be doing an overhaul on my website sometime soon. Don't forget there's also my sketchbook link in the meantime!

Officially graduated, but still working!

My year finally got our results and I have officially graduated - now into the wide world of work. I've been super busy with moving and networking, but here's a few things I've been doing in the meantime.

Image inspired by Maduk's song, 'Ghost Assassin'

Sketching at the hostel (in colour).
I'm currently in London for the New Designer's show this year, so if you see me around - I'll be wearing my badge hat - come up and say hi!

Business Cards!

It's almost time for our trip to London to meet agents and companies, and the New Designers show is also coming up fast, so most of the class has been working on getting some business cards made up - including yours truly!
Mine are supposed to be varied in style but still cohesive as a representation of what I do and how I draw or visualise. Here are the final designs to be sent off tomorrow:

And on the back of all of them will be this:

Some of my classmates reckon the back image is a bit intimidating, but I'm only smiling! I don't really like drawing myself but I am proud of my hat. Also redesigned my website if you haven't seen it yet!

Storyboarding update

Been storyboarding for my neo-noir project! Here are a few of the visuals to give you an idea what its looking like so far (with directions/text removed):

More Character Design

A continuation of the last post, here's some more character design stuff for my neo-noir movie. Inked by hand and then quick slap of colour on photoshop.
Our heroine (whose name i still haven't decided on - maybe Claire?) in some cool threads. She looks a bit moody, but then an old friend has just turned up dead on her doorstop so it might be excusable.

Anna is currently one of my favourites, which is a shame, since she spends most of the movie dead and only really appears in flashbacks. Here's the proof:

Finally, Liam, who gave me so much trouble and he's still being developed. Such a hard character to pin down! Slowly getting there.
Still a few more central characters to design, then on to storyboarding! I'm looking forward to it!

Gaming A - Z (preview)

Artsfest is approaching, so if you're in Birmingham on Saturday or Sunday the 8th and 9th of September drop by the Art on the Rails to say hi to the wonderful Max and me! Here's a preview of an A to Z of video games I've played which I've been working on for artsfest. See if you can get them all!

Gaming icons

A few bits from a gaming A-Z zine I'm working on every now and again...ink brush and coloured in photoshop. Think these ones are obvious? Any feedback on these styles is appreciated!

Goal Required

So today Max and I did some drawing in Falmouth (or, he did and I complained about the cold more than I drew). The results of which are above though the digital colour was added later.

But seriously I need some goal to aim for, it's hard to get the inspiration otherwise. At least now I have time to plow on with Victioriana...

Sneak Preview Rough

In my spare time I'm working on an interesting graphic novel project for a guy called Tim Hart.

Thought I'd share a rough with you as a sneak preview ...

The Adventures Of Cloud and Blue

Some sketchbook scans of an idea I'm in the process of working into a children's book. Just for fun, really, and an excuse to use brush pens more often!
The Adventures of Cloud and Blue will be in two books - one follows Cloud, the other follows Blue. After a snow storm, Cloud finds herself separated from the burrow and must try to find her way home. Meanwhile, Blue sets off to try and find her.

Starting Again

Since September I've been studying Illustration at Falmouth University. It's a manic and creativly exhausting time but I'm really enjoying it. Focusing on my studies and dealing with many other creative people has really encouraged my passion for drawing.

However, I have decided that I can no longer ignore this blog! I'll be posting up sketches, doodles and artwork, and am currently developing some small-scale products that will be available to sell soon (my current passion is badges, of which I am an avid collector).

Needless to say, it's time to bring this blog back to life!
