I want to live in a Container House one day

Recently I was researching about modified shipping containers turned into studios and homes as a means of cheaper, recyclable living space.

As it happens I just completed a commission for something very similar - Accessory Dwelling Units! These are mini houses built on property or converted garages. They're pretty popular in Portland US at the moment.

Much thanks to my friend Jack for putting my name forward for the job! It's a speculative image, but here's hoping it'll lead to more work. If not - one for the portfolio!

I also did a few black and white drawings of tea leaves for another commission which sadly fell through.

And to top it all off, I've almost finished doing up the spare room into a study/studio room. I'm in shared housing so I wanted to make sure the room is usable by others as well! Once it's finished I'll post up some pictures here. All I can say is...thank you, IKEA!

More updates soon!

Drawing Dogs

New Designers was fantastic, it was great to see so many incredibly talented people! There's been some interest in my work as a result, so it's been worth the stress of it all.

In the meantime (while looking for work) I've been talking with my wonderful mother about a story idea she's had - which I love - but involves drawing dogs...which are something I'm not used to drawing, so I've been experimenting with my style, seeing how it looks. Here's some initial sketches for you!

A Cockapoo. Essentially a mass of black curls...couldn't have picked a harder breed to start with!
A German Shepherd. One of my favourite breeds! This one is only a youngster!

Slightly more cartoony style to get across expressions better.

I'll try and keep updating more often, and will be doing an overhaul on my website sometime soon. Don't forget there's also my sketchbook link in the meantime!

Officially graduated, but still working!

My year finally got our results and I have officially graduated - now into the wide world of work. I've been super busy with moving and networking, but here's a few things I've been doing in the meantime.

Image inspired by Maduk's song, 'Ghost Assassin'

Sketching at the hostel (in colour).
I'm currently in London for the New Designer's show this year, so if you see me around - I'll be wearing my badge hat - come up and say hi!

The End is Nigh!

Here's a book cover I've been working on this week, for the YA book 'The Doomspell' by Cliff McNish, as well as some of my development thumbnails.

Last week in the studio before final ever hand in at the end of the month! Time flies!

Spectrum Character Design

Hey all! Here are the updated character designs for the three main player characters from Spectrum (a mobile game concept I'm working on). You may have seen the initial designs on my sketchblog, but these are the relatively final images:

Scarlett, the close-range fighter type

Klein, the defensive builder type

Blaine, the long-range fighter type

And a bonus experimental gif of Scarlett!

My business cards are here as well and we're all getting ready to head off to London next week so might be too busy to update for a little while, but will still be putting up some rougher work on my sketchblog. I'm also going to be doing a giveaway once I've completed 50 pokemon warmups, so keep an eye out!

Fun times!

You know that feeling where you want to draw, but don't know what? And how you work on something for hours but end up disliking it...

Business card design number one!

Illustrated Quotes and Sayings 8

This is my final for the Falmouth Illustrated Quotes and Sayings book 8!
My quote is: 'I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle,' (from Terminator 2.)

And a matching cover:

Quick update (and Pokemon)

Hey guys, sorry it's been so long since I updated! Been working on a few things which I'll try to pull together and post up.

If you follow me on tumblr (geegrevesy or the 'Sketchbook' link) you'll have seen some of these already, but I've been drawing pokemon as warm-ups since I've started working almost completely digitally. Some of my favourites so far:

And here's a digital painting I've done for my grandma's birthday, trying a more painterly style:

Practice, practice

Hey guys, I've been busy with uni work and with Victoriana so for now have a practice picture of Link! I'm trying to get used to sketching straight into Manga Studio with my tablet and using its tone settings ...Link is always a great source of inspiration.  View fullsize for the full impact!

And a quick kinda-self portrait drawn straight into photoshop because I haven't done much colour work recently:
And a quick note to say that I was featured on the Business Boom Collective HERE.

Xmas Update

Hey guys, I've been working on Victoriana most of the holiday so far, but have been posting a few doodles and bits up on my sketchblog. It's going to be a busy Christmas but we'll see how much work I get done.
Here's a coloured sketch to prove I'm still alive!

'Motion' Visual Essay

Since finishing up the posters I've spent the last week and a half working on a visual essay focusing on motion, and using Parkour / free running as my inspiration. I'm working towards a possible graphic novel final illustration, but thought I'd share a few of my best sketches first:

There are more scans and images of my sketchbook work, process and sequencing at my SKETCHBLOG if you're interested in seeing more.

Artsfest 2012

Artsfest weekend was a success! Both Max and I had a great time running the stall at the Art on the Rails pitch in Centenary Square. We met a lot of lovely people, sold some artwork, and roasted in the sun. Some people I met last year also visited us which was great!

And as promised, here is the finished video game A-Z, A3 poster which sold out over the weekend. Can you name them all?

And for anyone who missed out on grabbing one at Artsfest, you can purchase the poster HERE.

Gaming A - Z (preview)

Artsfest is approaching, so if you're in Birmingham on Saturday or Sunday the 8th and 9th of September drop by the Art on the Rails to say hi to the wonderful Max and me! Here's a preview of an A to Z of video games I've played which I've been working on for artsfest. See if you can get them all!

Gaming icons

A few bits from a gaming A-Z zine I'm working on every now and again...ink brush and coloured in photoshop. Think these ones are obvious? Any feedback on these styles is appreciated!

And away!

2nd year of Uni is over, just waiting on the results now. Been manic recently - had an interview for an internship at Disney online in London and my sister came down to stay for a week during which we had epic marathons of Game of Thrones (oh yes). Been doing some doodles in the meantime, trying to get back into the swing of things, and this one is what I did while watching '24 hours in A&E', a great TV programme that reminds me of my sister (who's doing nursing). Fineliner, scanned and messed around with colours etc on the PC (although I have a MacBook now, still getting it set up). About an hour's worth of work but hopefully will be posting more later.

Arrivederci amigos!

Quick Update

Just a quick update to say that I'm not only on blogger (here) but also on Tumblr under the name geegrevesy, to follow some people and to post fanart-y stuff. So if you see some things that look familiar up there, it's me.
I've also set up a Big Cartel account for anyone interested in grabbing some badges/prints, making it easier than e-mailing/paypal. To see what's available check out the Prints and Products page at the top of this blog. The site is http://ggreves.bigcartel.com/.

Now have a doodle page of the current cast of In-Jokes (which will probably increase soon) so that this post isn't just text:

Long hibernation

Didn't do much artwork over Christmas, but have gotten started on an information project about Video Game Consoles (on which I waste far too much time). Here's some sketches deciding on how to illustrate them:
How many of these did you own?

Artsfest Preparations

Hey guys! Things are almost finished for the Birmingham Artsfest tomorrow! Originals, prints, postcards, zines, badges and stickers, as well as calendars and posters will all be available to purchase, so come along and check it out ;) There's loads on during the weekend, plenty of free concerts and shows, and I'll be set up with the other Art On The Rails people up in Centenary Square. Will hopefully be uploading pictures of the weekend, so everyone hope for nice weather this weekend, ok? Anything I have left over will be sold via this blog after the event, so no worries if you miss anything! See you there ~ G x

Artsfest Preparations

Quick update time!

I've been allocated plot 6 at the Birmingham Artsfest, which means I'll be up nearer to the stage outside the Rep, near to where I was last year.

I've got some prints, original pieces, postcards, badges and calendars. If they're finished in time I'll have a few writing paper sets too. Hopefully I'll see you there!
